Description:
The course is an introduction to charged particle accelerators for people who anticipate making use of them in research or applications. For graduate students potentially interested in doing a Ph.D. thesis in accelerator physic there is the option of doing research at Fermilab with financial support from that laboratory. Since solutions to accelerator physics problems are often naturally found and visualized by means of computer simulation, a computer simulation lab has been made an integral part of the course. Consequently, the course can be substituted for Phys. 536 by undergraduate physics majors and for Phys. 631 by physics graduate students. Grades will be based primarily on homework and a term paper.
